Letter to the Editor

U.S. 'reached new level of risk' under Trump

Tuesday, September 18, 2018

After reading the obviously partisan article "Regime change-American style" by Patrick J. Buchanan in the Sept. 9, 2018 Edition of the Daily American Republic, I felt compelled to respond with an independent voice with this letter.

Mr. Buchanan seemed to say that all of the negative media attention, legal difficulties, and political opposition regarding Mr. Trump is simply a way for democrats to get Mr. Trump out of office in an undeserved fashion.

While it is true that the majority of Americans, including me, want Mr. Trump out of office, it is not for reasons of wanting some non-descript Democrat in office. Please keep in mind, the political morass, legal problems, and negative media coverage have all come from these actions by Mr. Trump:

#1. Highly immoral behavior with regard to women, in spite of invoking the loyalty of the moral majority and Evangelicals.

#2. Constant lying and deception that occurs virtually daily.

#3. Profiteering at every possible opportunity by using his position as President.

#4. Acting in the best interest of Russia, over the interests of the United States.

(Intentionally taking actions contrary to sound U.S. economic policy, intentionally causing negative trade relations with our closest allies, minimizing economic sanctions against Russia, and causing a major rift within NATO that is driving a wedge between the U.S. and other allies, and driving Turkey from NATO toward Russia)

#5. Constant criticism of the U.S. Department of Justice, particularly the FBI, so that he can attempt to claim that the criminal investigations of him are somehow unjust or biased. (Despite facts such as Robert Mueller is actually a Republican, is highly competent, and is a great patriot)

Now Mr. Trump says some things that are true. We do need firm southern border security in the United States, we do need to protect U.S. jobs from going overseas, and yes, in my opinion, Hillary Clinton was corrupt, and her handling of classified material should have resulted in a criminal indictment. But that does not negate the five points above. I remember being taught as a child in Sunday School that the Devil mixes truth with his lies to confuse us.

Just for full disclosure, I will tell you that I am politically independent, a military veteran with 9 years of service (both U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force), and a retired public school superintendent.

In my opinion, the United States has reached a new level of risk with the Trump presidency. I believe Mr. Trump to be a traitor sitting in the White House while working for the Russians. I believe him also to be a criminal who has laundered money for years for the Russian mob. Mr. Trump is also a chicken hawk who wants to threaten military action, but never had the guts himself to serve (deferment after deferment for bone spurs in his feet during Vietnam). Lastly, Mr. Trump is an extreme womanizer, to the point that he was intimate with women of ill repute within months of his wife giving birth to their son, immoral acts of unfathomable disloyalty.

Fox News is Mr. Trump's mouthpiece. Fox profiteers from the Trump Presidency by getting higher ratings. As he lies, so they will promulgate those lies. Stop watching Fox News, and wake up America. Vote for anybody in November who will vote to impeach Donald Trump. If you think this is a witch hunt, you'd best look at Mr. Trump again-he seems to be wearing a pointy black hat and riding a broom.
