Think about

the seniors, too

I would like to comment on you DAR article entitled, "A Walking Look at Downtown," on Aug. 25. You stated the area already draws 2 targets age groups, youths under 18 and resident over 65.

If this is true, why not do something specifically targeted to seniors over 65. Almost everything nowadays is catered to young people. There are NO clothing stores that has clothes made for older senior women. How ridiculous would we look wearing "cold shoulder tops," dresses or skirts way above our knees, leggings, etc. I'm over 65 and I have money to buy clothes, but they don't make clothes for us. Did the world forget that seniors have to wear clothes too. I'm not the only woman that has complained about this.

Also, could this town support a civic center for seniors. A place where they could get together, make crafts, do light exercises, have games, in other words use their brains. There are a lot old people who live alone who need to get out of their house and meet people instead of sitting home alone and growing more feeble and depressed. Seniors live longer and healthier lives if they have a reason to get out of bed. Please consider something of this nature. Thank you.

City hall shouldn't

be emotional

I also agree that the City Hall should not be an emotional decision. Downtown can't be revitalized by putting City Hall down there. How often do people go to City Hall? Once or twice a year at most. It should be an economic decision. The school system did not think about the growth of Poplar Bluff. Let's not do the same thing with City Hall. Somebody on the council said that Northwest Medical building was gonna be too big for what they need. In a few years it won't. In the meantime rent out the extra space or something like that. In a few years this town is going to be a lot bigger with a lot more population and we can use that extra space then. Don't do the same thing the school system did. They do not properly anticipate growth we are having.

We do not need

a dog park

Yes, I would like to know why they need a stupid dog park uptown for the rich people to walk their dogs? We have Ferguson Park, we have Bacon Park, we have Hendrickson Park and we have McLane Park. Why don't they build a homeless shelter to take that money they're given, grants and donations and whatever to build a homeless shelter for families. All we have is a homeless shelter for drunks and alcoholics and drug users that go in the rehab. That is only for men. Not for children. Not for women. This is ridiculous! Because we do not need a stupid dog park. Anybody else agree with me? Please speak out in the paper as well.
