Sheriff seeks community's support

Sunday, July 17, 2016

To the Editor:

I have often said law enforcement is only as strong as the community it serves. Law enforcement needs the support of the citizens now more than ever! By no means would I ever infer that law enforcement is perfect. No profession is.

As I take measure of the past weeks tragedies across the country I seem to go back to one conclusion. In my observation this country is strongly divided by those who see things realistically and those who prefer a more convenient truth even if they have to manufacture it. In our part of the world the truth is still the truth and facts are still facts; however, I think that in many parts of our country and in our federal government the truth is subject to interpretation.

No matter if it's the Ebola virus or Ar15s our leaders seem to want us to always fear something other than the real problem. I can think of no better example of the manufactured truth than the notion that black men are purposely targeted and killed by white cops.

On July 7th President Obama addressed the issue of two highly publicized police shootings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota just a few hours prior to the massacre in Dallas. At first he encouraged restraint and encouraged people to go on about their daily lives until all the facts were in. Then without fail he contradicted himself and returned to the manufactured truth that blacks are disproportionately targeted by police. Never missing an opportunity to advance a false narrative he went into great detail about the disparities of young black men when dealing with police and how they are twice as likely to be killed as white men. A statistic that is factually untrue! I could sight numerous statistics to debunk his self-serving manipulation of statistical data but that is not the point. The point is that we have an individual running our country who says the wrong things at the wrong time on purpose. Much like his characterization of the "J.V. TEAM" his words pertaining to these incidents have been irresponsible and inflammatory. In the end five officers lay dead in Dallas and now others are meeting the same fate across the country. On Tuesday while speaking at a memorial service in Dallas once again Obama seized the opportunity to mislead. In a time of mourning he chose to go off on another tangent about gun control, discrimination, Jim Crow laws and racial profiling by police officers. Does he honestly think the families and fellow officers of the fallen want to hear his manufactured truth? Of course not; however, he never misses a chance to advance his socialist agenda.

Many people are left to wonder why our leadership would take the erroneous stance they have taken, why tell the Al Sharpton's of the world to "stay the course" during a White House visit versus urging people to take things on a case by case basis? What would they have to gain by keeping the pot stirred and letting the mob flourish? Firstly, I think the motive for many is to distract a nation from our leader's failures rather than admit the problem is the creation of a corrosive culture by liberal ideology. A culture designed to keep people in need to keep others in power. Instead of tackling the bigger issue many blame law enforcement, guns, or if all else fails they blame George Bush.

As for the folks in the White House I believe it's a much bigger picture. I am convinced that they want to see traditional law enforcement abolished and replaced with socialist "hug-a-thug alternatives". Why else would a skewed version of the truth fall out of the president's mouth every time he speaks! I will give him his props and say the man is very intelligent. He is a master at marketing mistruth. No one can pour water down your back and make you think it's raining better than him. Like a snake oil salesman of the 1800s he never misses a chance to promote the manufactured truth that law enforcement is broken! It is my sincere hope that the good people of this country that I love will continue to ignore the great con that is being attempted by the masters of deception.

There's a thin blue line that separates good from evil. We are only as strong as the people standing behind us. It is my hope that this country will continue to back law enforcement and America will continue to be what our forefathers intended.
