Some thoughts on illness, health care

To the Editor:

I have wondered if the average man really thinks about the many illnesses that are floating around to catch people, or is it just me, because I am a retired nurse, was around so much illness, that I do think of the many illness so much. I try to do everything to avoid getting any illness. I do believe having a positive attitude, looking on the bright side of life, has much to do with a person's health. So far this has paid off!! I am past 80. Have no heart, blood pressure problems. In fact do not take any medicine. Although I do have one problem, "Sittiest." When I sit down, I do not want to get up.

One of the reasons I go to all of the Lunch and Learn programs is I want to learn all about the many illness that are around to catch one. The lunch is very good, but the programs are even better. So far the doctors have been very excellent speakers. Have presented the program so everyone can understand.

Just for a change, a young lady who plans these programs showed a movie, "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" tells the story of seniors looking to outsource their retirement and in the process discover that life and love can begin again when one lets go of the past. The film was made in India. Which I found very interesting. Grady and I spent a week in India years ago.

Very surprising how few came to the movie, when one considers how much a movie, popcorn and drink cost now. Don says between 10 and 15 dollars. They sure missed a good movie and snacks. The next Lunch and Learn is about Osteoporosis, which I want to learn all I can about that. It is about to cripple me. But I shall keep hobbling along. Will not sit down in a wheelchair much . . .
