Magic Johnson

set him up

You know I don't condone that Sterling and the LA Clippers if he really said that and they prove that he said it. I don't condone. In fact, I loathe it. It's just wrong. But anybody who has any common sense at all can tell Magic Johnson wants to buy the Clippers. That's his girlfriend that's got that tape and flirting with the old man and made the tape. I think this is all a put up deal on Magic Johnson's part to try to buy the LA Clippers at a reasonable price. Stop and think of it. It's his girlfriend. She taped it. They keep showing it, but they don't say nothing about he could have set this up hisself. As I say, I don't condone what that man said. If he said it he should be barred from basketball, but I think Magic Johnson ought to be barred from anything like that if he set that up to try and buy them.

Is Brannum's

heart OK?

Hello, Speak Out. I was just wondering how Councilman Brannum's heart was doing? You know a year ago he resigned because he was having heart trouble. I guess some of the women down there were sexually harassing him. You know then we just never heard anything else. So, how about an update, Speak Out?

Clarify Rushin

statement

Before the election of the city council, Dr. Rushin was reported to have been president of the Missouri Chiropractic Association. In contacting the Missouri Chiropractic office, they state they have no record of him ever being president of the society. Who made the mistake?

(EDITOR'S NOTE: He was president of the Missouri State Board of Chiropractic Examiners, which is different from the Missouri Chiropractic Association.)

Name people

from the city

The people who were appointed to the search group to find the new city manager -- how many of them actually live in the city limits of Poplar Bluff? At least three of them I see the names of do not. And how many of them actually own a business in the city limits? There they go again. C'mon, new mayor, at least put somebody on the search committee who lives in the city.

What if they

want Bagby?

Wouldn't it be great if the search committee of great, upstanding community minded citizens of Poplar Bluff the mayor has appointed came back with the decision and recommended Doug Bagby as the best choice they could find to be our city manager. Bye now.

Bagby smart or people stupid?

May I ask when was the last time that you got fired from your job, walked out by the police department and still received your salary for the next two years? Is Doug Bagby smart? Or are the people of Poplar Bluff stupid? Thank you.

Prosperity

or taxation

I had to chuckle just a little when I read Mr. Whitworth's Letter to the Editor in last Sunday's newspaper. The line that got me was "Poplar Bluff's unprecedented prosperity." I'm not so certain about that. I am certain about Poplar Bluff's unprecedented taxation. If Poplar Bluff is so wealthy, why did we have to raise our property taxes by nearly 30 percent last month? Why do we have an ever increasing sales tax soon to be approaching 10 percent? If Poplar Bluff is becoming increasing wealthy, it is on the backs of the taxpayers because taxation does not create wealth for the people, it destroys it.
