Northside Center needs assistance

To the Editor:

This is a letter to the community. My name is Connie Larrew and I am the administrator at Northside Nutrition Center on Garfield Street.

We need the help of the community. At this time we are serving 195 to 200 home bound meals a day. That is 200 people that would not have a hot meal if we did not exist. This year we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Older American Act. We receive some of our funding from the OAA and without them we would not be able to do what we do.

I am asking the citizens of Poplar Bluff and Butler County to help us celebrate their 40th year by making a donation of $40 and if you are not able to send $40 anything will be a big help. $40 will feed one client for nearly a month so you can see what a difference it would make.

Also we are looking for some land and or a building to move our center to. The building we are in has served well over the years, but it is no longer the best place for our center. If anyone has something available that would fill our needs please give me a call at 573-686-2074.

We invite you to come out and eat lunch at our center. We have very good meals and if you are 60 or older it is for a donation of $2.50 or under 60 it is a suggested donation of $4. We also have catfish and all the trimmings every other Friday along with a band. Hope to see some of you soon.

I ask you too remember that our seniors deserve to have the food they need. We have many seniors in our community that go hungry and people just don't realize it. What if one of these seniors were your mother or father?

Connie J. Larrew,

Administrator
