To the Editor:

Another year has gone by and we would like to let everyone know what has been going on at Kindred Spirit Animal Rescue. This year we have taken in 231 animals and adopted out 42. This has been our best year for adoptions since we opened in 2008. The dogs and cats that do not get adopted we try to find other "No Kill" rescues to transport them to where they have spay/neuter under control. They will have a very good chance of getting adopted there. This year we transported 140 dogs and cats. Unfortunately, we have to turn away many animals because we are constantly at our capacity.

We would like to thank Prospect News in Doniphan for letting us run pictures of our adoptable pets in the paper. Getting our name and their pictures out to the public helps a lot with adoptions. Campbell Feed in Doniphan, Orschelin in Poplar Bluff, and Hallmark Store in Poplar Bluff have let us have pet adoptions at their stores. Purina invited us to come to Wal-Mart with them for a pet adoption when they had Purina Day. We are very grateful to all of the businesses for their support.

KSARC has been to many of the local festivals this year. We have enjoyed talking to everyone and raising awareness of what we do at the rescue. We have had many fundraisers this year. The most profitable and fun for us was our bike ride we had in June. Donna Treadway put a lot of time in organizing it and the weather was good and we had a great turnout. Again we would like to thank local businesses for their donations of prizes, food and drinks. So if you enjoy riding come join us next summer.

We have been working on our kennel and cat accommodations as funds and help is available. Right now we need work on the floor of the kennel and some new fencing. At their own expense Hank and Della are in the process of putting a separate room on their house for the cats. As funds are available we want to add a screen room so they can get outside. We would like to do more to our rescue but most of our money goes to the vet care of our animals. All of our dogs and cats are spay/neuter, wormed and up-to-date on shots before they are adopted. Any dog or cat that we transport to other "No-Kill" rescues out of state have to have a health certificate, spay/neuter, wormed and up-to-date on shots. Unfortunately we only get some of the money reimbursed back to us. We also have many animals come to us. We also have many animals come to us needing medical attention before they are ready to be adopted. So out vet bill runs into thousands of dollars even though Dr. Segraves gives us a great discount.

Since Kindred Spirit Animal Rescue opened in 2008 we have taken in 932 animals. We can only continue to do this with the community's support. If you have thought about volunteering, please come out and do it! Besides spending time with the animals, we need people to help with fundraisers, bake good for bake sales and many other jobs. KSARC need someone experience in writing grants to help with our operating cost and spay/neuter for the community, We need board members to help with decisions made to keep KSARC heading in the right direction. We have meetings every second Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. The public is welcome. To get more information about us please visit our website at www.ksarc.org. If you would like to make a donation you can on our website. Send to our address or come out and see us. We would like to thank everyone that has helped us this past year. If you are looking for a new pet please come out to the rescue. We have many great dogs and cats.

Hope everyone has a safe and Merry Christmas.
