Get Real!

Can you imagine the county clerk and therefore the three county commissioners telling the Poplar Bluff High School students the county could not afford to give the students the "I voted" stickers in their mock election held the other day? I couldn't believe my ears when I found out about this. We bought 1500 for $30. This election only comes once every four years and we can't find $30 for the students to encourage them to be involved in our political process? Come on, get real! Get your priorities lined up down there!

Creating noise

Couldn't the railroad eliminate some of those irritating train whistles? We have a noise ordinance here in town and seems like the engineers go above and beyond to create noise. Please don't sound them unless it's necessary.

Wake up

I know we are going into the holiday season. Big money is always made in the movies around the holidays. But what is it with Hollywood? Remake, after remake, after remake of movies that have already been done. True Grit--the remake--a failure. No matter how you slice it. And now I see Hollywood is coming out with Red Dawn. Bunch of unknown actors and actresses. But we are to believe it's going to be anything different than the original. Oh, a little bit more special effects. A little bit more cursing than in the original. But, again, it's been done. How many times does America have to tell you--been there, done that? Maybe we need to just start walking away from the movies, not spending our hard-earned money as long as these theaters and Hollywood keep putting out another rehashed movie from Hollywood. Wake up, Hollywood. You're losing market share. Any reason why people no longer go to the movies and wait for the release of the DVD? At least then they get to pick and choose what they like to see, not have it ramrodded down their throat by just idly rewriting a script that's already been done.
