To the Editor:

As a relative newcomer to the area, allow me to share a story that involves so many generous and helpful people of Poplar Bluff.

Last Saturday morning I was enroute to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Bazaar to help my wife, Raona Hentz, when my tire went flat on Route W at McLane Park. Apparently, I looked in dire need of help as Terri Moore Dicks left the running track to see if she could be of help. At the same time Merlin DeWitt, answering Raona's call for help, arrived and the three of us were wondering how to fix this problem as the tire was coming completely off the rim. Steve Haga and Sherry Lansford stopped to see if they could help and they did. We had no jack so Steve went home to get one and he jacked up the car and changed the tire. In the meantime, the "doughnut" replacement tire had no air but Merlin had a generator in his car that provided air for the "spare" tire.

It is nice to live in a town with so many helpful and generous people.
