Old place

was filthy

Hi. I was just down at Broseley the other day at the Senior Citizens and ate dinner. I would like to say I never seen a more filthy place. They had spilled jelly on the floor and ants were eating it off the floor. We had to scoot old used clothes off the table to eat. What people bring in there could have bugs in them or everything. I wonder why the Butler County Health Department don't check these places out like that. I know our taxpayers are spending several hundred thousands down there to build a new building and I cannot believe the filth that's in this one. And, I asked a lady there why don't they clean it up and she said, "Well, when the administrator picks the board, she can do what she wants to. If you don't play bingo, that's all matters down here."

Well, I'm a taxpayer and I'd like to see the health department or somebody come in and check it out. I'd hate for the new one to be that filthy.

Hey, Todd,

what is rape?

Our Congressman Todd Akin recently made the statement about "legitimate" rape, and then he had to change his words to "forced" rape. I don't know what he thinks rape is, but rape is a forced act upon someone to get them to do something they do not wish to do. As a rape victim, I can tell Mr. Akin, your body does NOT shut down and reject a pregnancy from a rape. If a doctor told him that, then a doctor needs to lose his license. I, fortunately, did NOT get pregnant; however, the doctors kept a close watch on me to make sure that I was okay.

Maybe if Mr. Akin's wife gets raped, he will understand what rape is. No man should be allowed to speak about rape so lightly. It's disgusting! And, I feel sure that any rape victim out there would agree with me. You cannot reject a pregnancy because it's a forced act of sex. I don't care how hard you try.

TCT on Dish

a good channel

I would like to call attention to all of your readers about a channel on TV called TCT. If you are on the DISH Network, you can get it on Channel 27. Otherwise, you need to check your channels and see if you get it on a different channel. This is the most amazing show with the amount of information that I have ever seen. It covers the first 4,000 years before Christ and 2,000 years after Christ. It's amazing. It is informative and if you would check with our local cable company maybe we'll be able to get it on our cable. Also you can, if you don't have DISH Network, you can go to your computer type in TCT.tv and look for the show, "Faith in History," with William Federer. I think that the readers will find this most enjoyable and will find it very educational. Thank you.

Voter's story

hard to believe

I read about the voter who planned to wear her prayer pin and she was asked to remove it. I worked at the elections as a judge for years and I don't understand what this is based on. What reason did they give you? Otherwise, it's very hard to believe.

Cemetery

flowers gone

This morning I went to the Qulin Cemetery. The sight I saw was heartbreaking. There were no flowers on my family's grave, some on the shepherd's hook and the vase was empty also. Looking around in certain areas there was no flowers elsewhere. Someone needs to see what is going on. Those flowers were expensive. It is so sad to think someone would take flowers off of a family grave. We do this to show we will always remember our loved ones who have gone on. What a shame.

Check out

nursing homes

Speak Out, I am just almost begging you to please print this. I just moved a family member from a local nursing home and I have learned that there is a nursing home in the community that has been cited for filth, not turning patients, bed sores, dehydration and a number of other really serious citations. I'm not going to mention the name of the nursing home because I know you cannot or will not print that, but what I urge is that everyone who has a helpless patient in a local nursing home in Poplar Bluff, Mo., go and ask to them to see the results of their last state inspection and their citations. This could save an elderly patient from being abused or from even death.
