When residents see transparency in action, it reinforces their ability to trust

Saturday, July 24, 2021

On Monday, the auditor for the city of Poplar Bluff took a moment to praise officials for the quality of their financial reporting.

The documents presented to auditors accurately reflected the city’s finances and did not require any major adjustments.

It is “very rare” that a city the size of Poplar Bluff does not have to do this, said Jeff Stroder, Beussink, Hey, Roe and Stroder LLC.

The public’s ability to trust its public bodies is built on moments like this, both big and small.

Each time residents see transparency in action, it reinforces their ability to trust what officials are doing.

Unfortunately, the strength of any breach of trust or perception that something wasn’t done correctly can weigh much heavier in taxpayers’ minds than a hundred good deeds.

This is why we wanted to take time to thank city officials for their work on the 2020 audit and highlight this positive moment.
