Brodie Gargac was only 9 years old when he chose renovations for his hometown’s ballfield over monster truck national finals as the wish he most wanted granted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Gargac succumbed to leukemia before he could see that dream become a reality, but his community has never forgotten the big heart of that little boy. Brodie died one day shy of his 10th birthday, in February 2009. Work on the field began the following summer.
Brodie’s wish brought new fencing and dugouts, brick work, dirt for the field and a scoreboard for the only ballfield in Ellsinore, which is also used by the school district for its practices and competitions. Each year, event organizers also award $500 scholarships two Ellsinore seniors who are involved in sports.
