Efforts are being made to locate the next of kin of a 72-year-old woman found dead Monday in downtown Poplar Bluff.

Butler County Coroner Jim Akers explained the woman was homeless and appears to have died of natural causes. Law enforcement received a report of an unresponsive woman found near the area of Second and Cedar streets around mid-day Monday.

It is believed she had been suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She recently had told medical personnel she was going to see her grandchildren, Akers said.

Akers said the search has included locations in Poplar Bluff and Williamsville.

Law enforcement is not releasing the name of the woman, pending notification of family members. Anyone with information may contact Akers or the Poplar Bluff Police Department.

This is sad . She passed but it is even worse her family allowed her to be homeless . This lady was 72 years old surely kids grandkids or someone could have gave her a place to live . Family is family people .
