Wendell Shands

Wendell Shands 87, of Harviell, Missouri, passed away March 24, 2023 in the Missouri Veterans Home at Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

He was born May 14, 1935 at Hornersville, Missouri to the late Marion Shands and Euylalia “Smith” Shands.

Mr. Shands was a member of the Neelyville Methodist Church where he served as trustee and as treasurer. He had served in the United States Army during peacetime and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and S.A.R .”Sons of the American Revolution. He was the chief engineer on the boat Ingram. He enjoyed deer hunting, playing golf, cardinal baseball, fishing, traveling and enjoyed his dog, “Little Lady.”

On Sept. 17, 1955, at Neelyville, Missouri, he was married to Doris Francis. She survives.

Also surviving is one son: Gregory Shands and wife, Melanie, of Harviell, as well as grandchildren: Gregory Andrew Shands and wife, Karrie, Jennifer and husband, Brian Dennis; two step-grandchildren, Mikenna Tipton and Michael Tipton and wife, Chelsea, three great-grandchildren also survive: Karen Shands, Katie and husband, Zack Stucker, and Charles Drew Shands.

He was preceded by his parents, one sister, Jessie LeRoux, three brothers, Robert Shands, Norman Shands, and Marion Shands Jr. and one step-grandson, Dylan Tipton.

Visitation for Mr. Shands will be starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2023 with a masonic service at 6 p.m. Funeral will start at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2023, all in the Fowler and Sons Funeral Home at Neelvyille, Missouri. Burial will be in the Kinsey Cemetery at Harviell with Kent Wilfong officiating.
