James F. Watson, son of the late Alvie and Jewell Fowler Watson was born Aug. 2, 1935, in Sikeston, Missouri and departed this life March 18, 2023, at the Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau at the age of 87.

Mr. Watson was a Veteran of the United States Army and was a resident of Wappapello, Missouri. He was the Salutatorian for his graduating class in Morehouse and was the lab director at the Missouri Delta Medical Center. He enjoyed fishing, watching and listening to Cardinals baseball, and loved the Three Rivers Raiders basketball team, he and his wife were apart of a group that would charter a bus, to watch the away games. He was a member of the Lake Wappapello Eagles and VFW auxiliary.

On Nov. 18, 1954, he was united in marriage to Loreta Stumbaugh in Morehouse, Missouri. Mrs. Watson survives of their home at Lake Wappapello.

Other than by his wife, Loreta, he is survived by two brothers, Ronald Watson of Sikeston, Missouri and Michael Watson of Hot Springs, Arkansas; and by many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Other than by his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Watson; and one brother in infancy.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 1- 2 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2023. A memorial service will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2023. Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with full military honors.
