Two Poplar Bluff families are dealing with the aftermath of house fires this week, which has seen three structure fires in Butler County.

Two of the properties were totaled, according to reports from Butler County fires.

Fire and heavy smoke were already visible when firefighters arrived at 1655 County Road 620 shortly after noon Thursday. Crews report the roof collapsed shortly after they arrived at the home owned by Darnell Dunson.

The Red Cross was called to assist the residents of the home. Those wishing to assist the family through donations should contact the Red Cross Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas Chapter at 573-335-9471.

Seven firefighters in three trucks battled the fire with 7,000 gallons of water.

Crews were called at approximately 6 a.m. Thursday to another fire at an occupied home.

Family members were home when crews arrived to find fire damage to the kitchen and smoke damage throughout the 78 County Road 527, according to reports. Crews spent about one hour at the property owned by John Lawson.

Another home fire, at a vacant house, caused total damage to the property Wednesday, firefighters report.

County crews were called at 11:48 a.m. to the 600 block of County Road 558, owned by Alieen Dockery.

The building was fully involved when the crews arrived.

The five firefighters in three trucks spent two hours battling the blaze.

Information on the causes of the three fires was not available at press time.

Fire crews also responded to three grass fires Wednesday and Thursday.

The first was at 3:42 p.m. Wednesday at 3322 S. Westwood Blvd. Four firefighters in two trucks spent 20 minutes putting out the fire.

They dealt with another at 10:40 a.m. Thursday at 1229 County Road 623. The four firefighters in two fire trucks spent approximately an hour at the scene.

The last scene was a roadside fire on County Road 276. Five firefighters in three trucks responded at 6:45 a.m. Friday, and used 1,000 gallons of water.
