We hope your glass was half full this Thanksgiving

Saturday, November 27, 2021

Thanksgiving is a time to come together with family and friends, to reflect and to be thankful for all you have.

Some may argue and say there’s not much to be thankful for, but that’s looking at the glass as if it were half empty.

This year, and last, have had tremendous effects on our lives, adding more stress, angst and uncomfortableness to each day. We’ve lost friends and family members to a terrible virus that just doesn’t seem to go away. We’ve felt the pinch at the gas pump and at the grocery store.

Let’s face it — it’s been tough.

But still, we have a lot to be thankful for.

We can be thankful the number of COVID-19 cases locally has fallen steadily for two months. Likewise, we can be thankful to have an opportunity to go see a ball game, when a year ago, that wasn’t possible.

Farmers in the region who feed the masses can be thankful for the rain and their resulting crops.

Locally-owned business owners can be thankful for their customers, and we can all be thankful that, despite being hard to get, we still have some food on the table.

We can be thankful for the tens of thousands of military personnel stationed around the world, ever on guard to protect our way of life.

And in the face of death, we can mourn those we’ve lost … but we also can be thankful for the time we had with them and the things we learned from them along the way.

At the Daily American Republic, we’re thankful for our customers, our staff and those who help us to get the news around us out each day.

And there’s so much more to be thankful for.

On Thanksgiving, we hope your glass was half full — not half empty — and you were able to express your thankfulness.
