Park dept. is positive asset

Tuesday, June 30, 2020

To the Editor:

I experienced this (the weekend of June 20) such a positive event for your community in Poplar Bluff.

It is my opinion this happened because of the support of the park department finally allowing a large venue, which was a youth sanctioned baseball tournament.

With so many teams, they had to use two park facilities McLane and Whiteley to accommodate.

Let me explain, not only through the years did my daughter play travel ball but my oldest grandson did and now my youngest grandson does.

With many weekends spent out of town/out of state playing travel ball, this includes baseball, basketball and football for me, (this meant) spending money for hotels, eating out, and shopping, which adds up to a lot of dollars spent by each team members families. This last weekend (of June 20), (with another the following weekend) the Poplar Bluff Park Department allowed tournaments to be held and what a sight it was. The park was full, which I am sure was because of the out of town teams. The local hotels restaurants and stores were reaping the long past benefits of dollars spent because of these type of tournaments.

I believe a big thank needs to be given to not only the organizer but the Poplar Bluff Park Department, as the staff were so accommodating and a big bonus for the golf carts to transport people needing assistance. (It) was a much appreciated asset. It’s obvious Poplar Bluff is growing and I hope the community will continue to assist and support this much needed growth.

Poplar Bluff has a downtown development. How about a come to our town development, stay, play and shop experience all the time, not just once a year.
