Letter to the Editor

Some mysteries easier to solve than others

Tuesday, November 13, 2018

I have not submitted a Letter to the Editor for a while, so I figured I might just pen a little something interesting which caught my ear last night on the national news television.

There was a horrific discovery in New York where two sisters, the oldest, Rotana Farea, 22 and her younger sister, Tala Farea, 16, whose bodies washed up along the shores of the Hudson River and were duct taped together. The youngest was reported missing back on August 24th in Fairfax, Virginia, where she lived. Both of these young ladies are originally Saudi citizens living in the United States.

By the Medical Examiners report there were no signs of trauma to either women but the part striking me the most was the comment made by the Chief of Detectives for the NYPD, Dermot Shea when he said, they have not determined if they were homicides, suicides or accidents. What?

Okay, in a nutshell, yes, it could very well have been a suicide pact between the two sisters but I have researched some statistics from a period covering the beginning of 2000 to the end of 2003. During this period, granted it was some 14 to 18 years ago, there were 109 Males which committed suicide in the KSA, compared to 17 Females. You notice I did not use the term, "only 17", because there is no such thing as a term as "Only" when you are talking about suicides as we all know, one is too many.

I do know however in countries such as the KSA, the definitive Islamic Law according to the Shari'ah Doctrine, suicide is forbidden and is considered to be a criminal act against oneself.

This being said, I can probably put a suicide pact at less than a 5% chance of occurring.

Now, I am going to bring up the term "accidents" mentioned. Only thing I am going to say is, how can this be considered an accident? Two women, duct taped together pulled out of a river. Cannot see an accident in this one. I just cannot see two women duct tape themselves together then say, "Hey I got an idea, lets jump in the river and see if we can swim."

This leaves the only really logical theory in being a homicide. Let us review this picture if you will. We have two young women, duct taped together, washed up on a shore of the Hudson River in New York City. Hmmmm...call me a theorist with a little bit of stereotyping but sounds like a homicide to me.

Okay, yes I am stereotyping which is not a good thing to do but when I see a peanut I do not call it walnut because, all nuts are not the same...in most cases that is.

Folks, this was a horrible incident with two very young ladies losing their lives. Notice I did not say a horrible accident, this was no accident and whomever is responsible needs to be caught and pay the consequences whether they are Saudi Citizens or American Citizens. Human beings are human beings and no one deserves to have their young lives end like this.

My heart goes out to this family and the NYPD needs to find this or these killers and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.

It was just shown how a man can be found so quickly who mailed letter bombs to important members of the Senate and Congress but will the authorities do the same here? I doubt that because these young women were not important members of the Senate or Congress.

God Bless You All,
