Letter to the Editor

Congratulations to Stan Berry

Sunday, April 8, 2018

Congratulations to Stan Berry on a long, distinguished career and well-deserved retirement.

I really enjoyed Stan's final article in the Sunday, April 1 edition. Two of the news events that Stan covered and were referred to in the article occurred in the 1970s and still come up in the conversations that I have from time to time and probably other people from this area in my age range as well. I can attest to the fact that Stan's photographs associated with those stories were truly outstanding, amazing photographs. I also appreciated the nostalgia and interesting personal experiences that were mentioned.

When Stan began his career in 1964 I was in the third grade and couldn't read quite well enough to read the DAR yet. But I started in 1967 when my brothers and I took over the DAR paper route in Neelyville and I have ever since. During the 12 years that I was away from the area for education and training, I received the DAR in the mail a couple of the days after publication.

I have always felt the Daily American Republic is an excellent newspaper and I am sure that tradition will continue with Mr. Rosener and Ms. Farley.

Thank you and good luck Stan. Not only have I always liked your work at the DAR, I like your plans for retirement, too.
