More police

tickets needed

I just read an article in Sunday's paper about the Speak Out issue up in Ellsinore about the cops writing the speeding tickets and everything. You know the city of Poplar Bluff I'm proud to live in but they say that this city is hurting for money and could try to always get more funds from other entities. Why can't they enforce some of what we have here. I see signs that if too loud we impound. Kids come by here all the time with things I can hear inside my house. I see him here all the time in subdivisions, cut through street. You know I see the officers sitting down there, but you know I think they could issue more citations. If you go to any shop in town you always see cars double-parked outside the doors as well as one of those shopping centers here in town one of the pizza drivers take up every handicapped parking inside the mall there in front of the stores. You can't even get in there because of them parking there. I think we just need to step up and enforce some of what we have already and that could make Poplar Bluff a better living for all of us you know and put some financial gain in the city and maybe if you know the city people being enforced that they wouldn't take advantage of these situations. Thank you. I sure hope you print this.

Let merchants

pay for roads

I was just lookin' at the front page about the TDD accountability and oversight. It says in 2016 nearly $3.4 million was collected in Poplar Bluff. Can you imagine that $3.4 million that the consumers didn't get to use to go on their house payment, truck payment, groceries, clothing, build a new house. I mean this is money that the consumer is basically deprived of having the use of so that Harps' and Walmart and Menard's and the hospital and all those other places so they can have a little bit better road in front of their place. Personally, if you're a homeowner in Poplar Bluff they have a street assessment and if they come and pave your street you will see an extra assessment on your taxes. Let the merchants that are benefitting from this extra pay for those roads. Don't saddle the consumer with that expense. Legal seizure! It what it is. Legal seizing. The only thing you can do about it is to just not trade in those areas. It has needs to be mandatory that all businesses charging that extra sales tax to consumers it needs to be clearly posted at every check-out station.
