FISK, Mo. - Mary Stewart, age 79, of Fisk, Mo.,died on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at the Gideon Care Center in Gideon, Missouri. Mrs. Stewart was born November 4, 1937 in Portageville, Missouri to the late: AlbertFreeman and Bernice Lorene (Miles) Meatte. On February 07, 1953 she married Raymond Roy Stewart, Sr. She was a retired business woman. It was a dream of hers to own a business with husband Raymond. They owned and operated Stewarts Grocery at three locations. They built the first store in 1972 on "T" Hwy across from Lake Road School. They also had a store in Fisk and one at the intersection of Hwy 51 and Hwy B which is now owned and operated by Son, Raymond Jr. (Raymo) and wife Nancy. Mary enjoyed visiting with the customers who frequented the store. She has been a resident of the Fisk area for 44 years. Before moving back to Missouri she lived in Michigan where she worked as a waitress at Roy's Steak House, a job she really enjoyed. She also lived in Arizona, California and Nevada. Mary's hobbies included playing cards with family and friends, traveling, sewing, collecting memorabilia, and dancing with her husband. On holidays she liked to cook large meals and her special Christmas desert, homemade fruit cake. She was a member of Eastern Star of Saginaw, Mich. and active in Al-Anon. Through the years she enjoyed volunteering at the VA Hospital and Camp Allen. The Poplar Bluff United Gospel Rescue Mission and St Jude Children's Hospital were Mary's favorite charities. She was a cancer survivor. Mary said she enjoyed talking to God and as a widow she found more value in the relationship with Him. She attended Twin Rivers General Baptist Church when her health would allow. Her son, Raymo filled her life with laughter. She called him her clown and her daughter was her marvel. She also said, husband Raymond was her entertainer and she was his audience. She is survived by one son: Raymond (Nancy) Stewart, Jr. of Fisk, Mo; one daughter Sonya (Ricky) Gunnels of Dexter, Mo.; three grandchildren: Mike (Angie) Stewart of Fisk, Ray Stewart of Fisk, April Rojik of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; nine great-grandchildren. Her nieces and nephews were special to her along with Harland Lamb of Puxico. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 25, 2001, one grandson: Ricky Gunnels, Jr., one brother Albert R. Meatte and one sister Margaret Louise Brown. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, at White-Sanders Funeral home in Fisk, Mo. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jim Sanders officiating. Burial will follow at Brown Chapel Cemetery in Broseley, Mo.
