A forceful reminder

The 90th Psalm is a prayer of Moses during the wilderness wandering of he and the Israelites. In it, he recognizes the eternal nature and greatness of God and that their predicament was a result of the sins of the people. He notes most of the people are dying by the time they are 70 years old. He asks God, "Who knoweth the power of thine anger? Even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath." V. 11. He seems to be saying, "Who connects your anger with the brevity of life? Who recognizes your wrath as a consequence of thy people's lack of reverence for and worship of you?" Then he prays, "So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." V. 12. If we are ever mindful our lives are brief and always uncertain, then surely we will apply them to obtain wisdom and to use them wisely. If we recognize God's anger is brought against the sinful, rebellious heart, it will turn us from that which is sinful to that which is holy. If we recognize God is loving, gracious and is worthy of reverential worship and our wholehearted love, shall we not love, worship and serve him? To do otherwise is to incur the wrath and judgement of God.
