While driving in Poplar Bluff its hard not to notice all the trash on the side of streets and highways. It looks to me like people should be proud of their town and keep their trash in the vehicle until they get somewhere with a trash can instead of throwing junk out the window when so many people work hard to keep property clean.

But I did notice a problem several times lately that really contributes to the mess. "TRASH TRUCKS"! I have been behind trash trucks several times while driving on the city streets and highways and was surprised when I saw the amount of trash blowing out of the trucks. It looked to me like they drove all day they shouldn't need to empty the trucks at the dump very often, because it should stay half empty all the time considering what blows out of it.

I'm surprised nothing has ever been done about this. I hope the authorities check into this and something can be done to keep the trash in the truck where it belongs and parents talk to their children about this problem so we can be proud of our town instead of ashamed of the filth.

This also happens with open bed trucks of individuals hauling trash and junk.

Downtown is

for young folks

Rebuild Downtown Poplar Bluff -- "Use the Bulldozer." They will come.

Replace some of the old business with new and old businesses, such as the buildings in the Poplar Bluff Shopping Square.

Poplar Bluff has grown and will wcontinue to grow.

It is no secret that it will take out of town investments.

Money makes money.

Revitalize some of the old business.

Downtown job pays too much? "Give Mrs. Fox a chance."

The Greater Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce should get more involved in downtown Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Let's face it, when are there any activities downtown. Who do you see? It is not the old folks, very few. It is the young folks. It is the young folks who will bring downtown Poplar Bluff back to life.

I have been told that you do not put hay into a dead horse's mouth.
