I just want to start by saying the people of Greenville are not getting the whole story on the things that are going on with the cities financial stuff. The city clerk can only do what the mayor and board of aldermen tell her to do. This all started with Carroll Rainwater as the mayor in 2004, or even before that. He has no since of how to run things from a real financial stand point. He has never listen to people like the DNR, when they have told him the things the city needs to be doing. He has always tried to do things his way and that does not always work. Mr. Scowden came into office in 2008 and had things in much better shape for the city from the financial mess that Carroll Rainwater had it in. The chief of police was put on a salary, and let me just tell you that salary was agreed upon by the city mayor and council as a whole. people think that job doesn't consist of much but let me tell you when you are called from home at midnight or two o'clock in the morning to take care of an alarm or to assist the sheriff department on something at their office. Or when the local mint mart opens at five AM in the morning and they have an issue with a customer or if they have a vehicle that makes them feel uncomfortable sitting in the parking lot and they need someone. Since the chief was required to live in the city there was ALWAYS someone available to the citizens of the town of Greenville. And I can not thing of one job that anyone in this town would do for free!!! That's just wrong to ask anyone to work for free. The people in the courthouse don't work for free, the people at the gas station don't work for free, not one business in this town employees people for free!!!! hey ill be the first to say yes some people will volunteer for jobs but not run an entire department of police officers!!! I mean that's just ridiculous to even ask someone to work in that compacity for free!!!! And for the people of this town to feel safe and secure should be the important matter at hand. Now I know they have appointed a chief outside of town, hows that going to work, when all deputies have gone home for the night and there is not one officer in this town to call if help is needed. I pray that no one in the town needs anyone in an emergency after hours. I can not believe the disrespect that the people express in this matter, I mean some people just run their mouths and don't even know or have the whole story!!! well why don't you ask the people involved? why not question them and get the right answers? small towns are only good for one thing anymore and that is UNTRUE RUMORS!!!! but the bottom line is things in this town where going really good when don scowden was mayor, he got the streets repaved, he had things in far better shape financially then what they where before and even after him. But to defend mayor Bennett, he did not have the council to support him like he needed to be able to run things like don did. you had one alderman that couldn't hear a word that was being said half the time, one who wanted to argue with everything that was said, and another who is entirely too old to be on the board. Nothing was ever accomplished at the council meetings! you have to work together as a team because there is no I in TEAM!! you are elected to be the voice and make decision for the citizens of the town and when you are not able to accomplish that its time to do something different. Now we have a council who are only interested in blaming others unfairly for things beyond their control. And doing things for personal reason, to be vindictive to others just because they thing they need all the control. well its not about those people being in control they are suppose to be the voice and reason of the town as a whole not for just the ones they like. BUT THE TOWN AS A WHOLE. Being your friend or enemy should not play a roll in the job that needs to be done right for this city and the citizens of the town!!!! During dons office of mayor he was also able to get the town a dollar general store! We have a new Mexican restaurant! which some on the council don't like due to the sell of the alcohol but really does that even matter, I mean you go into Walmart and they sell alcohol! this town is in a mess it already needs new members on the council including a new mayor that are wanting to do things for EVERYONE not just a select few!!! I am embarrassed to be a citizen of this town!!! I have never in my life seen such childish behavior from adult grown men!!! the stupidity of these men sitting at the local gas station running their mouth about city business that should be done in a public meeting and not just anywhere in town. city business should be conducted in the proper manor and not sitting at the local business discussing matters that get blown out of proportion and causing rumors to be spread that are not true!!!!!!! this town is a disgrace and I am embarrassed to be called a citizen of this town right now!!! good lord lets grow up and act like adults instead over grown children!!!

family values

How far will the transgender bathroom issue be allowed to go? Who will be the loudest to say they are 'becoming' a different race, ethnicity, or species? Job opportunities and paying taxes are on the line with these.. Let's just get back to decency and wholesome family values.

Hats off to Luecke

Hats off to Chris Shrum, the entire Luecke Distribution Team and all those around town involved in bring the world famous Clydesdales to Poplar Bluff. Anyone that has ever put together a major event or an event of any magnitude knows how much planning, coordination and team-effort is required to make the event a success. And the Clydesdales' visit with a huge success!!!

Angry people

I think it is really a shame and speaks volumes for why people are so angry these days. For someone to not be charged with any violation of the law, none whatsoever, in the death of that child was involved. Then one is charged with fishing, catching one fish without a license, and be charged $250. It is a shame that that is more important than an accident left behind. Thank you.
