Remember

what Jeb did

Let's not forget while we're picking our Republican candidate for president while Jeb Bush was commander-in-chief of Florida is where the election process was so flawed under his guidance that the Supreme Court had to appointment a president. That year we did not elect a president! And I think that should be remembered as a matter of principle.

Robbed of a

good doctor

Dr. Preston Jones was an orthopedic surgeon in Poplar Bluff. I was his patient. Dr. Jones was unusually intelligent, unusually well-trained and unusually open and kind. I lost an asset that I needed. I see pot possession as a valid issue that at some point will decriminalize its usage. While I applaud law enforcement for criminal pursuit of those that produce and sell meth, I think it is unwise to use valuable police time to pursue an individual for smoking pot in his residence. I think it was inappropriate for a police source to quantify Dr. Jones' pattern of pot use. What was printed in the DAR was an inflammatory opinion not just the facts. I find the DAR's decision to treat Dr. Jones' arrest as any more than an item in the police report as based in the journalistic treatment of public figures. Dr. Jones is not a public figure! Why was there an exposé on the front page? This decision appears to have little to do with people's right to know and more to do with a juicy story about a local doctor--tabloid mentality! This type of uneven coverage is difficult to justify. When I have an a.m. medical appointment I want to see a physician that is refreshed and destressed. I don't care if he smoked a joint or has a drink in his own home when off duty. I think that the police department and the DAR robbed Poplar Bluff of a valuable asset just because they could! Sorry, Dr. Jones.

Good riddance

to the St.L. Rams

This is a dissatisfied football Missouri fan. This is for the St. Louis Rams football team. It reads like this. Good-bye, Rams, and good riddance!

Don't look back and don't come back!

DAR subscribers

will get credit

Now that the paper no longer publishes on Mondays, will the DAR reimburse customers the difference in the subscription dues? Will next year's subscription rate be proportionately lower to reflect the loss of Monday's paper? We are rather disappointed that we have paid for six days worth of newspapers and now only get five.

(PUBLISHER'S NOTE: Your subscription expiration date will be extended for those Mondays you have prepaid.)
