Thoughts of fall

To the Editor,

Another fall has arrived. Fall is my favorite time of the year. When another season arrives, I always think of the many places I have been at that time of the year. I am now going to suggest a lovely place to go next fall on vacation. That is the east coast. Starting in Virginia and driving all the way to Canada. That is the most beautiful drive in the country. There may be drives in Oregon and in Washington areas beautiful. As these two states I have not been in, so I do not know about that part of the country.

We lived in Connecticut for a short while. Was in the fall, and we would take drives just to see the fall foliage, and the huge piles of pumpkins, all kinds of squashes and gourds. Of course baskets and baskets of apples. Seems like years ago we grew pumpkins to eat. Now I think we just grow to use for decorations. I just thought of this as I am writing, I cannot remember of seeing a pumpkin in South Africa. I do not make pumpkin pies very good. Wasn't one of Grady's favorites. So I didn't ask about pumpkins while there. My son David makes excellent pumpkin pies.

Mentioning of huge piles of pumpkins and such. No one could do better than my neighbors, Eva and late Carl Strenfel. For years their whole half acre hillside yard would be covered with every kind of pumpkins, squashes and gourds. Was a beautiful sight. The schools would bring out bus loads of children to get their pumpkins. Eva said she was glad that she had taken lots of pictures of things.
