Who makes laws, people or 5 judges?

To the Editor:

In 1972, the U. S. Supreme Court ruled that same sex marriage was illegal, affirming that marriage was between a man and woman (Minnesota college students vs. State of Minnesota). I have always understood the laws of our land were to be approved by the people of our country, state by state, but over the past few years, some Federal judges have told the state governments that they had to change their laws to make same sex marriages legal.

No branch of the federal government, Legislative, Executive or Judicial, had ever made such a law, not until most states felt compelled to change their law according to these federal judges decisions, and then in 2015, the U. S. Supreme Court decided in a 5 to 4 vote to make it a law that same sex marriage is legal. What has happened to the will of the people?

What kind of effect will this have on the minds of the children being raised by two men or two women, seeing their friends and acquaintances with a mother and father. Did these judges and the Supreme Court even consider what problems this kind of life will have on these children? Children need a mother and father to help them grow up and be adults. GOD gave us Ten Commandments and the Fifth Commandment states, "Honor Your Father and Mother." Other commandments refer to this but this is the strongest.

Yes, we have some friends that are gay but as far as I know they are not trying to have this kind of effect on the children of our country.

With over 90 percent of the voters making the laws, whatever happened to the notion that the people of the country made the laws, not just a handful of judges. Where did these judges come up with the fact that there was a federal law making same sex marriage legal. Over 90 percent of the voters in these states voted and passed the law stating that marriage was between a man and a woman. Why did the state Legislatures refuse to challenge the decisions of these federal judges? Things like this is why people of the land do not trust any of the politicians. It seems that they only make decisions in a way to see what is in it for themselves.

I hate to say it, but I believe that our country is heading for a giant disaster. If we do not get back to the basic principles that our country was established upon, things will continue to get worse. Al Jolson always stated, "YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET," and, I believe that we will continue to have more and worse disasters until we get our country straightened out. The majority of the God loving/God fearing people in our country need to speak up or receive what we deserve. Same sex marriage is not God's works, it is man's, so wake up before it is too late.

I hope that the people of Kentucky have woken up and will continue to challenge the changes forced upon the people of our country. May GOD help us.
