Doggie Swim Day was a big success

To the Editor:

Many thanks to everyone who took part in Doggie Swim Day at the Poplar Bluff city pool in Hillcrest Park on Aug. 30. It was a big success, with about 70 dogs and 125

people. Everyone seemed to have a great time.

This year's Doggie Swim Day was our second consecutive and was co-sponsored by the Poplar Bluff Parks & Recreation Dept. and the Animal Welfare Alliance. Everyone from the Parks & Rec Dept. was wonderful to work with, as they were last year. And even the weather cooperated!

Doggie Swim Day is a "fun-raiser" rather than a fund raiser, with entry just $1 per dog - humans free. It certainly lived up to its billing for four-leggeds and two-leggeds alike. The event is held just before the pool is drained for the season and chlorine levels are reduced somewhat to avoid irritating the dogs (while still keeping the water safe for humans).

Weather permitting, we look forward to making a splash again next year!
