Victor Walter Nahodil, born April 8, 1918 in St. Louis, Mo. to the late Frank and Paula (Haack-Wirtz) Nahodil, he departed this life on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo. with his family by his side. He attained the age of 97 years, three months, and 21 days.
Victor was a lifelong resident of Garwood, Mo. where he was a member of the Yount Memorial Baptist Church and a former member of the old Piedmont, Mo. VFW Hall. Mr. Nahodil was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II; he was a Purple Heart recipient. Later in life, he worked as a self-employed Timber Worker.
Mr. Nahodil was a loving family man who enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, playing poker and rummy, hunting moles and watching birds.
On Sept. 2, 1941 Victor was united in marriage to Omalee Middleton in Van Buren. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2000.
In addition to his parents and wife of 59 years, Victor is also preceded in death by two daughters, Rosemary Nahodil and Ruth Ann Price; one brother, Paul Nahodil; two step brothers, John and Eugene Wirtz; one step sister, Mary Schierhoff; two grandsons, Brad Long and Jordan Hardwick and one great grandson, Seth Foster.
Survivors include one son, Victor Eugene Nahodil (Sheryl), of Indiana; two daughters, Betty Jean Long (Everett), of Van Buren, and Juanita Sanders-Mcquay (Scott), of Cape Girardeau, Mo; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; as well as many other relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015 from 9 to 11 a.m. at McSpadden Funeral Home in Van Buren with funeral to start at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial to follow at the Yount Memorial Cemetery in Garwood.
