MLB attendance a judge of economy

Friday, June 19, 2015

To the Editor:

I do not know how people 'sorta' figure out how the country's economy is going. I do that by the attendance of the major league baseball games. And I think our economy is in not too good of shape right now.

Last year the attendance was way down. And I think this year is even worse!! Last year I remember on Sunday afternoon two of the Calif. teams were playing, and I do not think there were 2,000 people in stadium. I have this idea that if there is a large crowd screaming on the players, the players play better. Must add the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals almost always have a large crowd. The Chicago Cubs may not go anywhere, but they do have their fans.

Last year there was a bit of long hair and beards. This year hair down to the shoulders. And beards unbelieveable. I had heard that the Yankees could not have any facial hair, but this year so many have a mustache. Guess they had to rebel a bit. And think the owners cannot fire all of us.

We can always hope things will become better, and remember things could become much, much worse.
