Picture was

disrespectful

I am a third cousin of Jamie Ferrill whose body was found on Wednesday, I don't know if someone wasn't thinking about his family or not, but I see it as disrespectful that a photo of him being carried had to be shown, do you think the family wants that image in their heads? A photo of him as used on the news would have done the job, there was no reason to throw that heartbreaking photo in our faces. None! Please be more considerate and respectful with any other stories of this nature. Thank You.

May God have

mercy on you

Today I picked up the DAR and was completely disgusted that you would post a picture of them bringing Mr. Ferrill's body out of the water. The family did NOT deserved that disrepect!!!! You have made the tragedy they are going through so much worse. Would you want your family printed on the front page like that? I think not. What did you gain a few dollars? I really don't feel like that is worth the damage done to a grieving family may God have mercy on your soul.

Coliseum isn't

only one in red

The Thursday article in the DAR "How much is the Coliseum losing?" has caused me to think about all of our city government in terms of profit and loss. How much is the Library losing per year? How much is the Police Department and Fire Department losing each year? How much profit in dollars and cents is being returned to the people of Poplar Bluff from administration at city hall? The answer is zero. Are we shutting down those operations?

We do have some departments that are returning dollars. The ones identified by the city's credit rating agency; Coliseum, utilities, airport and golf course are at least returning some dollars. Yet because they aren't self supporting they are under scrutiny.

Doesn't the city spend ALL the money they collect in taxes? Millions of dollars every year. By their definition, all of it a "loss".

Why are we focusing on the few services to the public that the city provides that are subsidized by the user? Why haven't we heard that the Library is being closed down because it hasn't turned a profit? Are we going to shut down the Municipal Court or just operate it on weekends until it turns a profit? Why don't we get credit card scanners for the police so they can take payment when they answer a call?

The only profit the public gets from the city is service. That's what we expect.

Spaghetti

was last straw

It's time we get rid of the city manager. 95 % of the people in town are for it. I think we should throw him out by referendum that way we save him from getting a job with another city and ruin it. We probably could get 3,000 votes -- that could be done in one week. That way it would be one his record and he wouldn't be able to get a job. If we allow him to resign then it's not gonna show the terrible displeasure we've had with him. The spaghetti dinner was the final straw that we can take from this man. Also the new positions he created in the front office which developed absolutely no income for the city and that seems to be why he wants to get rid of the coliseum and the other things that don't make any money. I guess he don't realize the city (his office) makes no money whatsoever it just drains us. Let's get rid of him NOW!
