Kiwanis thanks Wolf Creek helpers

To the Editor:

Thanks to all who helped with Wolf Creek Trail Run

Saturday, April 4th the Poplar Bluff Kiwanis Club, in partnership with the United States Forest Service hosted its second annual Wolf Creek 5K and 10K Trail Run. The Trail Run was held in the beautiful Mark Twain National Forest on the Wolf Creek Bicycle Trail just north of Poplar Bluff. New this year was an age 6 and under "Bunny Hop" featuring the Easter Bunny. The children who participated had a great time hopping through the trail with the Easter Bunny and a special visit from Three Rivers College mascot Rocky Raider.

Kiwanis started the run last year to help expose this wonderful asset we have in our area, and raise money to support the club's mission of "Saving the Children of the World". The local Kiwanis Club is responsible for Kiwanis Bacon Park and some of the funds will be used to help enhance and maintain the park. The Wolf Creek Trail Run is held every year at 9:30 a.m. on the Saturday before Easter. Plans are already in place on how to improve next year's run, set for March 26th.

We would like to take this time to thank the many people who ran in the race and sponsored the event, as well as the Kiwanians who joyfully gave of their time and worked the event. Our race directors and fellow Kiwanians Kenny Rowland and Brock Littles did an outstanding job organizing the run. Mostly, we appreciate the United States Forest Service for their vision and hard work on the trail and allowing us to conduct the trail run again this year.

Additionally, we thank Rural Metro Ambulance and our many sponsors: US Bank, First Choice Insurance, Poplar Bluff Realty, First Missouri State Bank, First Midwest Bank, Southern Bank and the Poplar Bluff Park Department.

Whether it is hiking, trail running or mountain biking, we encourage everyone to visit the 21 miles of trails at Wolf Creek. See you on the trail!
