Imperative In Preaching Gospel

Thursday, February 26, 2015

The first imperative in preaching the Gospel, in any age, is to proclaim Jesus as being the Christ, the Son of the living God. The lamb slain from the foundation of the world, who took upon Himself the nature of man thereby revealing the very nature and heart of God to proud, haughty, sinful, dying race. The second imperative is to convince every person he is hopelessly lost and estranged from God, and that there is no way to find salvation from sin and reconciliation to God except through faith in and obedience to Christ. Having led him to believe in Christ, the next imperative is to call him to repentance. See: Luke 13:5, Acts 2:38 and 17:30. Repentance is more than merely seeking forgiveness of past sins. It is a turning from all that is sinful, past, present or future. The penitent believer should then be led to publicly confess his faith in Christ and acceptance of Him as Savior, and submit to Christian baptism in obedience unto his command. Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:15-16. Acts 2:38 and Acts 8:36-39. The new born Christian must be nurtured in the faith. Matthew 28:20; Hebrews 6:1-2. Then total commitment of one's life and will unto Christ must be made. "If you then be risen with Christ...set your affections on things above, not on things of the earth. For your life is hid with Christ in God." Colossians 3:1-3. There ought also to be a sense of urgency and finality about the Gospel message-"Today if you hear His voice..." respond to His call. It may well determine your eternal destiny.
