Show respect for Kaplan and council

Saturday, January 10, 2015

To the Editor:

I am dismayed by your total lack of respect for our City Manager and City Council and the biased reporting and editorials that I am subjected to on an ongoing basis. From day one of Mr. Kaplan's job you have maligned him. No consideration by you was given to the fact that he was hired after a fair election where the voters of Poplar Bluff expressed displeasure with the status quo. Back off and give Mr. Kaplan a fair chance to succeed. That will really be positive for all.

You should quit trying to sensationalize minor issues to serve your personal agenda. Where were you when City Cable was sold without disclosing that hundreds of thousands of dollars would be needed to bail out a service contract without that being disclosed at the time of sale? Why did it have to be discussed and voted on in the same night?

I question how many of the so-called "Speak-outs" are really coming in or are they being created by your editorial department? At the very least, you are biased in the selection of which ones you publish.

I am a long term paid subscriber to your publication but will discontinue that relationship in the near future if this practice is not corrected. I am certain that I am not alone on this issue. If I do chose to discontinue my paper, I will also contact your advertisers who I do business with and relay my displeasure to them.

(Not everyone shares your view of the City Council and Mr. Kaplan's job performance. We can agree to disagree, however, I do appreciate you being a long-time subscriber to the DAR. Respectfully, Publisher Don Schrieber.)
