Everyone needs to pay loans

[mail] The BBCC

Our city is now operating under the BBCC form of government -- The Brian Becker City Council. They agree to pay your services or agree to pay back a loan and then just walk away after they're used it up.

Brian Becker needs to pay his loan and so does CC to MU. The grant writer may need a new pair of shoes and that has to be in the budget.

Put manager's office in BRC

Since the coliseum does not meet our new city manager's idea of a money maker explain to me how the police department, how the fire department, how the municipal works, our electrical, everything in this town is it all supposed to be a money maker? Can you explain that to me? I know for a fact that the new city hall that he has proposed won't be making us any money. Why can't His Majesty move into the coliseum? Is that unworthy of His Lordship?

I think from now on we need to be a little more particular in who we elect for city council since obviously we have been really tricked in this last election. People are not who we thought they were. I have lost all respect for the mayor, for our city council but mostly for His Lordship Heath Kaplan.

We got trouble right here in river city

Have any of you seen the movie, The Music Man? Well, I'll tell you folks,."We Got Trouble . . . We Got Trouble Right Here in River City. We Got Trouble With a Capital 'K'" and that rhymes with, no, that actually stands for Heath Kaplan. Watch the movie if you ever get a chance and think on it and think about the current situation we have in our fine river city of Poplar Bluff. And, tell me, who do you think's playing the lead character of con man, Professor Harold Hill? I'm not naming any names. I'm just saying you better be glad we don't vote on city manager.

When's this guy's contract up?

Give him his walking papers

Yes, I was reading this woman's article about Kaplan in the Daily American Republic. He said, he's just like Doug Bagby, so Doug was so bad he had to be fired how come Kaplan's still here? Give him his walking papers. Thank you.

Can't smoke

in a church

Good morning. I'm a life long resident of Ellsinore. I was married here. Became a widower here. Have seen the businesses come and go. Seen 'em close and fail. One of our businesses is the Log Cabin. Right on Hwy. 60 across from Dollar General. I'm referring to the Log Cabin because it has been there for many years. I've had families help build it and I've had families work in it. It has rolled over several times -- some good, some bad. I've watched it go from good to bad and now it is in new hands again. Well, the new owner is very nice, fair and has cleaned it up. She's also gone from smoking to non-smoking restaurant. Well the rumor cliques that have been here longer than the Log Cabin are bad mouthing her and the business because they can't smoke. They said they don't want to sit some place for an hour waiting to eat where they can't have a cigarette, so they are bad mouthing here.

Well, you can't have a cigarette in church, are you bad mouthing your church? Are you boycotting it? No, I didn't think so! So, c'mon, people, grow up! Let the cliques go. Quit bad mouthing the woman and be glad she's willing to put her time and money into a restaurant that's been there for ages. Thank you.

"Yes, Kaplan, I have questions!"

This is a direct message to Mr. Kaplan. I'm a citizen who has a ton of questions for you. I've never met Don Schrieber or even know anyone in my circle of family or friends who know him either. So, if you think that we the public are not talking about this unnecessary spending, you are very mistaken. If you think the town is in such financial trouble I feel you have no justified reason to spend all that money. It's just common sense.

Now, a message to my fellow citizens out there. I guess we're going to have to print up T-shirts, put signs in our windows of our cars and houses and our stores, posters, whatever, to convince this man we're not all stupid. I guess we start a slogan stating, "Yes, Mr. Kaplan, I have questions!" If we fill the town with these posters and put them all over the place maybe he'll understand that we are not going to ignore this. People are very busy during the holiday season, but I hope when that's over word will keep spreading about how much he has been spending and people will start talking more and more about it. I believe that there should be some people out there brave enough to speak out. The facts are out there and they can't be denied even defended as far as I'm concerned. So, c'mon, Poplar Bluff citizens, let's do something. I'm afraid for our future with this man in charge. We've got to try to do something because the city council doesn't look like they're going to do anything. Bye.

To blame paper is ridiculous

To blame the newspaper and Mr. Schrieber for the problem with the city administrator is ridiculous. The paper is presenting the facts and figures taken from his elections and presenting to us. We ought to be very thankful that the newspaper is doing this, otherwise, he would continue to expose us as ignorant people who he can do anything he wants. It's time to get rid of him.

Madam Mayor watch person next to you

This is for Madam Mayor. She needs to be careful of what she says and where she says it. Out in public when you say your only problem is Don Schrieber you need to be careful who's around you. I don't think you know Mr. Schrieber's friends that well. So, just be careful. The way you dropped the "F" bomb and now you're doing this. You need to watch the person next to you--Kaplan.

City Manager needs to respect community

Having been in politics for more than 50 years, there would seem to be no doubt that the present city manager is receiving kickbacks from sending to all these out-of-state corporations. There can be no other explanation for it. These incidentally are very difficult to find because the kickback is in the form of cash which can be deposited in a lock box, a bank, or any other place or safe at home or can be placed in a Swiss bank, off-shore bank or a bank in another state which makes it almost impossible to find out. There can be no other explanation for this since there is no reason for city manager to believe people he's dealt with before are more honest than the people in Poplar Bluff. Certainly, if he is in this community he needs to respect the community instead of damning it at every turn that he makes. It's time that he goes!
