Cure for woes

in Wayne Co.

As a taxpayer in Wayne County, I am commending the Wayne County Health Center Board of Trustees and administrator on their solution to financial troubles. They voted to give the office staff 2 1/2 days off for Christmas!

Give PBRMC

another chance

I am currently laying in the Same Day Surgery department at PBRMC. I have already had platelets, a port placed , And am getting ready to receive blood. I can only say that these nurses are as intelligent and caring as any I have ever run across. Give your local hospital another chance. The improvements are real.

Robbing

the coliseum

Kaplan continuously tells us what a drain the Black River Coliseum is and how much it is costing the city to operate it. He also tells us that the 1/2 cent sales tax that we voted for in 1989 to fund the coliseum -- that we were told was going to be removed when the building was paid for has now been extended forever. For one thing, obviously there is more than enough money from the tax to make the mortgage payments and he is using that money for other purposes. (Build a new city hall!, pave streets, etc.) If this money all went into the operation of the coliseum, as intended, perhaps it wouldn't always appear to be operating in the "red."

The coliseum was never meant to be a money making endeavor, it was intended to be a service to the community, much like the police department, fire department, etc. These departments don't make us money and were never intended to break even. They are a public service -- just as the coliseum!

They need

treatment

Yes, I was reading paper about the Drug Summit . I've been trying to get through like to the prosecutor and all the law-enforcment here in town. These young people needs drug treatment. They don't need to get sent to prison to where they can learn how to be a better criminal and be more of a drug addict. They need treatment. I don't know why nobody don't understand me before but I hope they understand me now! Because I read about the Drug Summit in the paper Sunday and I think that we need to get 'em help. We just don't need to push 'em off to the side.

Yearbook

arrival absurd

After reading the articles in today's paper about project graduation and the senior school books. I was wondering why do the seniors not get their yearbook in the year they graduate? What is the sense of giving them to them after they've graduated? A lot of them leave the state. They go to other states to go to school or because they got married. They join the military and how do you expect them to get the book? How do you expect them to get back together with their friends that they went to school with for 12 years? I think this is one of the most ridiculous things in Poplar Bluff or Butler County I have ever heard of.

R-1 ignoring

special needs

Poplar Bluff R-1 has done it again. They have ignored the needs of our special needs students. Nowhere in the article in Sunday's paper about the future or in Progress did I see anything about facilities for the special needs students and those who provide ancillary services for them. Nothing! But, there's a football field. We already have a football field. Why do we need two?

Parents of special needs children it's time to ask Poplar Bluff R-1 about their future plans for the special needs students. Don't let them push your children aside. You need to lobby for better facilities and accommodations for the ancillary services required for your children. If you don't say something now, your children will once again be ignored.

Shame on you, Poplar Bluff R-1. Do the right thing and reorganize your plans for the future to be inclusive of the special needs students. Thank you.
