Common sense?

To the Editor:

"Common Sense"

( . . . something that seems to be lacking in Washington.) Congress and the President bicker over illegal immigration and border security. The problem is neither. The problem is National Security! It is the responsibility of congress to establish our laws. When these laws are put into place, it is the President's responsibility to see that they are enforced, whether he approves of them or not, and to see that the American citizens are kept safe. Congress is stalemated, and the President is subrogating the existing laws.

With thousands of illegal children crossing our southern border, does anyone think that terrorists are not already here? Even though some good (although illegal) people will suffer, the following must be done if we are to keep this country safe:

1. Use the National Guard to protect our borders (they have two weeks of active duty each year, rotate them in and out), and the Coast Guard to protect our waterways.

2. Take away every reason a good person would want to come to this country illegally. Then only those coming across our borders would be coming for illegal purposes, (terrorism, drugs, etc.), and it would allow the Guard to stop them by any means possible, including lethal, if necessary. Examples:

a. A baby born in this country would be a citizen only if the birth mother is a citizen.

b. Set extreme penalties for anyone giving employment to, or doing business with an illegal.

c. No tax dollars to any educational institution that enrolls illegals.

d. No medical care, in a life or death situation, for illegals.

e. No birth certificates, marriage license, or drivers license issued to an illegal.

f. Give any illegal three months to leave the country. After that they would be deported, all property seized, and never allowed to become an American citizen.

3. Increase the number of immigrants allowed to become citizens, from a legal status, whether outside or inside the United States, but only after an extensive background check.

4. So that everyone pulls his or her own weight, no state or federal aid would be given until after they have been a citizen for seven years.

These laws would be hard, but necessary if this country is to survive.

Again, where is our common sense? Our government officials are more concerned about terrorists blowing up a plane and killing two or three hundred people, but not about them coming across our borders and killing thousands.
