Sidewalks last place city needs to spend money

[mail] When did City Council decide when someone (city manager) is making plenty of money and shouldn't seek outside employment or involvement? What is plenty of money? If you seek success in this nation (monetary and/or character) is that a sin, is it against the law, should be mandated by City Council and the mayor? Why does Mayor Pearson resent or hate those who are successful? Because she'd not successful or she thinks she deserves more than she has earned? If you are expecting good applicants for City Manager, why would you put restrictions on them before they even apply? What are you afraid of?

If you are raising a family, want a decent home and want a good college education for your children, shouldn't you be FREE to seek additional income? If you want more for your family shouldn't you be FREE to seek additional income? What about unforeseen medical bills? Shouldn't you be FREE to seek additional income? Mayor Pearson is power hungry and seems to want to keep people in their place, under her thumb. Mayor-Pro Tem Rushing kept referring to people in their place: HELLO--they are elected officials not hired personnel. Mayor Pro-Tem Rushin is from the wealthy West family. What if they were told that their income was enough and they could not seek more? This is so wrong. I work two jobs to make a better life for kids.

As for paving sidewalks in Mayor Pearson's ward, I live and drive that area. There are beautiful, well kept homes that are moderately priced. We are not the poorest of people in Poplar Bluff. Every ward has people in need. I do not like being referenced to as poor or not able to pay my bills or can't afford a car. That's all over the world not just in my ward. Sidewalks is the last place the city needs to spend money.

As for your disrespect for Ms. McVey, Mayor Pearson, shame on you. Brian Becker has done nothing good for our city and former council allowed him to run his mouth at City Council meetings.

Unwise or

illegal?

Our present city council is working overtime to try to justify the very unpopular and probably unwise firing of the city manager. The only issue they brought up is certainly not illegal, maybe unwise, but not illegal.

What are

sidewalks for?

I'm driving around Poplar Bluff looking for sidewalks because our mayor has brought up the subject of sidewalks. I don't see very many sidewalks, but I'll be damned I don't see anybody out walking around either. So what are these sidewalks gonna be for? I'd really like to have that question answered by our new mayor. Thank you.

Why not meet

at city hall?

I just had a question. We have the city advisory committee and don't we have a city hall that they can be meetin' in? Are we paying for these guys to go to Key Rexall for a conference room? The city don't need to be spending any more money than they already have out of pocket. That was my question. Why raise taxes?

I was just reading in today's paper and everythin' that the big shots in town here are wantin' to raise our taxes. Why do they want to raise 'em fer? Don't they think our taxes is high enough? They improved the roads none. They put it in their pockets. The big shots put that money in their pockets. Our taxes is high enough. Thank you.

Disabled but

still workin'

Here's one for you that maybe somebody can explain to me. If you are disabled and you've applied for disability and you get disability you're getting your check every month then how can they turn around and say, okay, now you're gonna work and make this amount of money and it won't affect your disability check. If you're disabled, how can you work? And if you can work, why are we giving you a disability check? I just thought I'd throw that out there. Does anybody have an answer? I'd sure like to know what it was. I mean if I can collect disability and not be disabled and work, well, by golly, that's what I want to do! Tell me how! Thank you.
