Wake up PB

[website] Recently on a visit to see my mother in Poplar Bluff, I had the opportunity to observe the new city council and mayor in action. Former residents of Poplar Bluff ( I live in the Kansas City area but grew up here) keep up with what goes on by following on Facebook and the DAR online. It is usually prudent to give people the benefit of the doubt when they make mistakes, but the oversight of the residents of Poplar Bluff regarding the election of the new city council members has to sting. The thirty or so minutes I observed the council regarding following the city ordinance about giving preference to city residents on boards over county residents with everything else being equal was painful to watch and appalling to listen to. Clearly the new council has no regard for the ordinances which help govern the city, nor do they appear to have a clue about how to implement Roberts Rules of Order. In addition, the comment by the new mayor to Mrs. McVey regarding her ex husband was down right catty and in very poor taste. Obviously when the mayor feels threatened or challenged on her agenda she lashes out in a way that is rude and unbecoming of someone in her position. Mrs. McVey was kind enough to overlook her transgression, which in my opinion would make her an asset to any board. Taking the high road is always a road less traveled, one that the new Mayor obviously hasn't been on lately. Wake up Poplar Bluff, get these self serving, self righteous, negative city council members and mayor out of city hall. Who knows what city ordinance they will choose to overlook next to advance their agenda!

Merely a

figurehead

[mail] Mayor Pearson is the Mayor. What is the definition of mayor in a council-manager form of government? According to wikipedia "the position of "mayor" present in this type of legislative body is a largely ceremonial title, and may be selected by the council from among its members or elected as an at-large council member with no executive functions."

On your facebook page you say "I understand that this kind of gossip comes with the position I am in." Am I missing something? You are merely a figurehead; yes you were elected mayor by your partners in crime but what position are you in? You also stated that people can talk to you without fear of retaliation. You and Johnny retaliated against Mr. Bagby when you fired him for not agreeing with you and wouldn't admit wrong doing when there was none to be found (to save face). Johnny is upset because his womanizing and immoral ways were exposed; he should not have left written evidence behind. He did the crime but there was retaliation by the firing. I'm sure the remaining city staff are shaking in their shoes wondering if they don't do things your way, without discussion, they will to be fired. To the Mayor's constituents, do not trust her, either agree with her or you will be punished.

You and Brian Becker have twisted every word that has been said that you did not agree with or didn't aid Becker's case and now you are complaining because it is happening to you? What position are you in to be untouchable? Peace be with you (your words on facebook).

Turncoats?

Concerning the recent actions of our president in negotiating with terrorists one only has to look at this Bergdahl and wonder, do soldiers in their right minds when they are in a combat theater leave their weapon, leave their body armory and just stroll off into the darkness? Ask yourselves, America, when this guy says well he was going to do a walkabout in Afghan and try to develop friendships or is he just an American that is hell bent in just hooking up with the terrorists that he wishes to become? Nobody wants to voice that opinion in America. Frankly, if I was the president he could have rotted over there with his captors. Myself, had I done the same thing being in the army also I would have been charged as being a deserter as he rightfully should be if he returns to American soil. You noticed I used the word "if" but then again he may be going to a hospital in Germany right now but what's to prevent him from making another walkabout? You know like that wonderful guy that worked for the NSA that ran to Russia. We have a bunch of turncoats in America ready to put a knife in our back. This is just one more case of someone who didn't want to serve their nation and ran away to do their own thing. Trust him? No. Return him to America? Hell, no! He should be tried, put against the wall and shot!

Where are

minorities

It's interesting to me after reading the names of the people the city council put on boards how few minorities were included. First Peter Tinsley goes and runs against the only minority on the city council and gets him kicked off the board and now they are not appointing minorities to boards and councils around the city. I wonder what all that means?
