To the Editor:

I am a 65-year-old lifelong resident of Poplar Bluff. Several months ago I was diagnosed with a chest wall lung herniation. A very rare and painful condition where I managed, due to a viral cough, to cough a portion of my left lung through my rib cage, I was admitted to the new Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center into the hands of Dr. Stanley Ziomek and staff. Following Dr. Ziomek's surgery I spent 11 days in the hospital recovering.

The nurses were polite and punctual on their rounds and came promptly when I called for assistance. The lab services were are done in my room from X-rays, breathing treatments and standard vital information in a very professional manner. The doctors orders included my being required to walk the halls daily. When I would return to my room, housekeeping staff had made the bed with new linens, waste baskets were emptied and the room was spotless.

I understand the negative opinions held by many residence of the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center and I have heard the stories for years. My family and I can tell stories of poor treatment and conditions ourselves. However, having been in both hospitals myself, the similarities now are in name only. The new Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center is just that. New in construction, new in administration, new in staff and new in services.

I would sincerely hope that should you need medical services, you would feel confident in using the NEW Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
