Why did city

pay too much?

I think there are questions about the new City Council and the actions that they have taken. I think the question should be why did the city pay $900,000 for a car wash that appraised at $445,000? Seems to me the difference could have been used to buy one or maybe two fire trucks. Who made it on that deal? And Mr. Whalen didn't even get what he needed for his property. Don't talk about the new city council and how crooked they are. Don't talk about how they've got a vendetta. You don't know what you're talking about! Let's look at what the former city council. Let's really delve deep and look. When you pay too much for land wonder why? Wonder who got a little bit of that money? Maybe just the man who owned the car wash, but when it comes to other land deals that people come down and just two days later buy the land and make a $250,000 profit. I think there are a lot of things to be looked at related to the former city council. And why is it that Pocahontas, Ark. is able to get a brand new factory bringing in industry the city the size of Poplar Bluff can't do that? Oh, we can bring in retail which is fine. That's good, but bringing in good jobs. And also let's ask ourselves why we are so worried about a man who has made a huge salary for years and years and years and no one has asked what about the cable worker who were let go? They are ordinary, everyday people and they needed their job. Where is the outcry and concern for those people? Tell me, where is it, DAR? You won't print this because you are one-sided. .

I love that

Mrs. Pearson

As far as the new city council, I love that Ms. Pearson and I'm gonna tell you why. She came on the council and asked questions. Whether she was wrong or right in the outcome. She had the nerve and guts to ask questions. Bagby didn't want you to ask questions. I have been told that by former council members years and years ago. You are not to ask questions. You're just a go-along. And, Mr. Bagby couldn't stand that a woman might ask questions and question him. Oh, my goodness! And, you say, there are two other women on the council. Well let me tell you about the two other women. The only lady, Betty Absheer, is a very nice person, but as far as I can tell she goes along and doesn't ask a lot of questions. And Mrs. McVey was rude to people, ordinary citizens, that came before the council. That's on video and that can't be disputed. I don't know why in the world this town is so in love with all these people. Let's give the new council a chance to work and to prove that they can bring our city a lot of progress, good jobs, not just retail jobs. You probably won't print this because you are a Republican paper.

Messed up

tree trimming

I don't want to kill a dead horse, but going back to the tree trimming that's been in your paper, if you want to see messed up tree trimming take 160 toward Doniphan and two miles before you get to Doniphan make a right on 21 and take that up to Handy-Dandy and Highway K and make another right --you have never seen such a messed up tree trimming! They've killed the trees! Nothing around it! It is stupid! Somebody needs to come out here and regulate this and I don't care what it says about the State saying it's gotta be 10 feet under the line. Okay, but do they have to 30 feet away from the line? Let's just cut the tree down. To heck with trimming it! Does anybody know that how we get our air when we breathe? Somebody needs to check on these people. Aggravated in Missouri.

Why no

UCAN photos

I just wondered why there weren't any photos of the UCAN walk on May 17th?

(EDITOR'S NOTE: There was a picture and story on Sunday, May 18.)
