Will Google

give me Ed?

I just want to know if I Google " Vince Lampe for presiding commissioner" if I will go straight to Ed Strenfel's web site.

City Council

vacation plans

So I saw today where the Thai military carried out a coup, declared martial law, set a curfew, and banned meetings of five or more people.

The good news is these new members of the Poplar Bluff city council will still be able to vacation in Thailand as planned this summer - in groups of three.

Contract no

longer good

I'm calling Speak Out against the price gouging at the Ozark Fitness. We switched over to Ozark Fitness because the PARC was gonna close and Ozark had a better steam room and a pool. PARC didn't close, but Ozark Fitness had a steam room that went down and they had to pay to get it fixed. Been down a couple of months and now they got a key punch pad on the door with a note that says you have to pay an extra $5 a month on your account to have access to the pool and the sauna. I really think that's price gouging because that was part of the package when we signed up. It was part of our agreement when we originally signed up that we had full access to the place. Everyone in there signed a contract to have full access to the place. I don't believe it's fair for the owners to just change the deal and charge us no matter what. It's kinda like that city council when they just take a vote to raise our electric rates. Anyway if you put this in Speak Out, I'm sure someone else would read it and comment. Thank you. Have a nice day.

Give turtles

right of way

Really? Everybody knows this the time of year that the turtles cross the roads. If you cannot avoid running over a small, defenseless turtle, you don't need a license. If you can't avoid the turtle, how are you going to avoid the kid that runs out on a bicycle or a ball or anything like that? I'm tellin' ya if you can't avoid the turtles it's time to give up your license and get off the road. Really.

Was Sliger

ever honored?

Recently Presiding Commissioner Ed Strenfel congratulated the storm spotters for being recognized by the National Weather Service. I wonder if his buddy Rick Sliger was ever recognized while he was the EMA Director of Butler County.

Miss the

movie listings

This is a question for the editor of this newspaper. Why do you no longer publish what movies are showing at our local theater? This could be a public service you provide for your subscribers even if the theater doesn't wish to pay for this advertisement. You see some people do not have computers with which to access this information. As a daily reader of this newspaper, I have seen generous donations of print space for causes you deem worthwhile. Surely you can donate a small space in our paper once or twice a week for this small, but kind cause.

(EDITOR'S NOTE: Maybe you should ask the theaters why they don't advertise. The drive-in does.)
