Check answering machine volume

Please fix the outgoing message on your circulation answering machine. The volume is REALLY Low and almost inaudible when I call in to report that I didn't get a DAR for that day. Thank you.

Ask some deep questions

A recent article done by the Daily American Republic here in Poplar Bluff, I noticed one local politician that's running for city council said that one of the greatest tasks that he would like to accomplish while in office is having our gravel streets paved. I find this odd because it seems that nearly every politician wants to improve the streets in our town and yet they ignore that horrific brick streets we have. I mean those are an eyesore for any businessman that rides through our community taking a little journey back to the 1800s. But anyway let's move beyond that and go back to the idea of paving the gravel streets that this politician proposed. If memory serves me well didn't the city have a special sales tax incentive back in the day when Harold Jackson was the mayor of our community? And whatever became of that? Was it sunseted [sic] too soon? Did they not spend the monies collected efficiently? We need to ask some very deep questions when politicians banter around all of these great promises they wish to do for our community when we see and can look around and see very little is done. Now mind you, everyone says keep the bricks! I say, either repair them or replace them in their entirety. It's the 21st Century not the 19th. Second: if we are going to pave all the gravel streets. pave them all! I mean gracious one just has to look around and wonder, but then, pickyunish communities end up doing pickyunish things. So, your choice, Poplar Bluff. Remember, votes do count and do matter as do politicians' promises.

It's the law

You know Obamacare. The Republicans keep hollering about Obamacare. You know it's the law of the land. Like laws under George Bush, Clinton, Reagan all the way back to Eisenhower. Once it's a law, it's the law. And then again there are 7 1/2 million already signed up for it and there'll probably more than in the next month or two. Does the Republican Party really want aggravate 7 1/2 million people? Can they afford to aggravate 7 1/2 million people? That many people in a big election coming up. I don't think so! Republican Party, I know you're in disarray right now, but you better stop and smell the roses. 7 1/2 million votes you're gonna make mad cause they signed up for this coverage and paid for it? You better stop and smell the roses like I'm saying and think this thing out before you take an aggravate 7 1/2 million voters cause that is an election. Thank you.

Arrests drop, taxes increase

When they legalize marijuana they'll sure lose a lot of money. The big part of the newspaper they fine people for being in trouble with marijuana even though they say, on the other side, they'll be taxing it. Well I know law enforcement gonna lose a lot of money. That is, if and when they legalize marijuana which they are determined to do. So that's my opinion of it. Just watch the arrests drop when they get marijuana legal. Thank you.

Speak up about Pine bridge

I'd like to comment on the bridge approach. On the Pine Street bridge, west side, the approach to the bridge is really settling bad. I wish enough people would get together and start complaining about it. It's really a joke and highway department might do something about that. People need to speak up about and try to get something done. That's on the west side of the Pine Street bridge.
