To the Editor:

In today's society, we are often faced with negative headlines and the "that's what's wrong with our world today" moments. We are so happy to report that Poplar Bluff is an amazing town comprised of many wonderful people and businesses. Poplar Bluff Student Council has been a recipient of this kindness and generosity many, many times. As our school year quickly comes to a close, we want to take this time to reflect back on the year and give thanks.

Hefner's Furniture always provides beautiful chairs and greenery to decorate the Homecoming Queen's stage, Rob's Flowers has donated the gorgeous floral arrangements that you see the court carrying, and Jim Bailey has allowed the use of his own personal cars during the parades for our royalty court to ride in.

As one of the largest collection sites in the area, the Red Cross really counts on us to have a high number of blood donors. In order to thank the donors and encourage them to attend, we have been fortunate enough to have businesses provide donations to the blood drive canteen for the donors to enjoy before or after their donation. Among these businesses are: The Deep Freeze, Rowland Stollen, Pizza Hut, Domino's, Papa John's, Burger King, McDonald's, Subway, Steak n' Shake, Fazoli's, Colton's, Pizza Inn, Mike & Zach's BBQ, Godfather's, and Long John Silvers. Thank you so much for helping us help them. At the spring blood drive, we were able to meet our goal of 152 productive units!! Thank you to all of the community members that donate at our drives, too.

We wouldn't have been able to put on the program that almost wasn't, Mr. Snowman, without a great deal of help. A big thank you to Maya's for donating the tacos for the guys' eating contest, Mr. & Mrs. Huskey, Zach MacAnulty for being an awesome MC, Mrs. Callahan, Ms. Morehead, and our judges: Paula Hefner, Lucas Edington, Dr. Dean Dye, Tony Webb, and Blake Talkington.

We also want to thank Mr. Bruce Weitzel for all of his help with announcing the Powder Puff and Powder Buff games and Zach McAnulty, Alicia McAnulty and Riley Sells for their help with the Powder Buff game. As a result of this fun event, we were able to raise about $560 to be donated to the Weekend Backpack Program for our local students.

We love being a member of this community and we are honored to serve it. Thank you for all you do to help us help our community and accomplish our goals.
