Pave the

gravel roads

I concur with the lady from Oglesville regarding living on gravel roads. I am guessing that none of the road commissioners live on one. I was raised on a gravel road and now 50 years later I am again living on one. I have a hard time understanding why someone in the last 50 years, has not proposed to black top or pave them. I understand its very expensive but how many jobs could be created if only we get started. I had an opportunity to drive on country roads in Germany in 1978, 36 years ago and even then the roads were paved. I am proud to be an American and American know how. So if we put our minds and backs to work I bet someone could come up with a reasonable solution. The only thing worse than driving on a gravel road is driving on a muddy gravel road. God Bless The USA

Stop medicating school children

I want to say this to the teachers of our schools. I realize that you've had education so you could be teachers and I appreciate you and that you care enough for our children that you have done so. But, you must realize children make noises and laugh and have fun. I love to hear our children speak and to have respect for teachers and we teach that to our children, but you and I know that children do things and you should not expect doctors to give them the "quiet" pill. I understand that sick children must take me medication at times, but to just have a lethargic child because the child is bothersome to you and a parent when they speak giving a "quiet" pill. Thank you for listening. Bye.

What's going on with City Cable?

Well, well, well, they're at it again. Trying to sell City Cable without Poplar Bluff citizen's knowing about and I'm sure with the permission of our good and honest city council members. Isn't it amazing that no more than it was found out he hadn't checked the fuel factor calculation since 2007. The purchase power adjustment was removed from our electric bill. My cable bill was $4 more this billing period than last. Is he and the city council trying to squeeze what they can before the sale is finalized? I'm in my mid-70s and, of course, on a fixed income. I'll be looking into other systems as I cannot afford my meds, utilities, etc. and cable, too. Also I'm virtually homebound and my only form of entertainment is TV, reading and puzzles. I am going to write a letter to the Attorney General as well as my government representatives. Maybe they will do an investigation into the wrongdoings. Way to go, Ms. Pearson. Please don't back out. DAR, I sure hope you put this in Speak Out. Thank you.

Wear your

glasses on!

This is a return article on "Check the Site." Yeah, Mr. Whoever-You-Are, I drive down that road quite often. I've got grandchildren in the 5th & 6th Grade Center. I have grandchildren in the technical school. I'm fully aware of that site out there and everything else. And no one, not me, did I ever say there was going to be a tornado. I'm not God! I don't know what there's gonna be. I said, "If!" I-f . . . If . . . read the paper! If there ever is a tornado out there -- one was out there at Pine Cone -- a four category, but IF a big one ever does come through it will wipe out the hospital first if it comes from the southwest like they usually do, than take all that out. Over the past 50 years or more they kept all the schools separate over Butler County to keep it from killin' and hurtin' a lot of kids. That's all I'm saying. So next time you read the DAR, they print it and put it in black and white and English so you must be on the school board or you're from out of town or you don't speak the lingo. Put your glasses on and read the paper. Nowhere in it did it say there was going to be a tornado out there! It said, "IF." So next time read your paper and you'll get the facts straight next time before you criticize something that you don't know nothin' about it. Like I say you're either on the school board and you want that place out there because you're gonna get a kick-back or something else. So, thank you, and believe me, I do love the DAR and I love Poplar Bluff. I just don't want to see nothing bad happen to our young kids. Apparently you don't care. You're just after the money. Thank you and God bless America.
