An excuse to

go out of town

This is about the tax-free days that they with everything pertaining to school and everything. The City of Poplar Bluff --the board rejected the idea of giving the city tax back on this. Everybody else, the State, and everybody else, complied with it. All the other towns around complied with it. That's not that big a deal, but what that does that gives everybody, all these women who like to go shopping in Sikeston and Cape and places like that because they've got some bigger stores, and this gives them an excuse to go. They love to go out of town and they can have lunch over there in one of those real nice restaurants and all this does is give people an excuse. It's not the money. It costs more money to go to Cape. The idea is to get people to come to Poplar Bluff. At the same time they've got to buy gas, food and they're gonna do different things and for that little bit of tax money it's hard to tell how much we'd lose because Poplar Bluff chooses to be greedy and keep all the tax money. Why? I don't know. It doesn't make any sense at all. People from Dexter, Sikeston and over in that area they don't come to Poplar Bluff to shop, they go to Cape. And a lot of people from here go to Cape to shop and this gives everybody an excuse to go to Cape or wherever and shop. Then don't do that. We need all the business we can get right here in Poplar Bluff. Things are a long way from being good. The article in the paper said everything was just fine and great and everything is rolling on. It's not! Look! Look a little harder. I'm really disgusted that the city would do that. Hopefully next year they will correct that. Maybe. Maybe not! I don't know. I don't understand.
