Vet too good

for VA to help

Yes, I'm calling to say the VA isn't there. My husband served four years in the navy which three years was overseas when the Vietnam War was going on. When he got out he worked for 33 years in St. Louis. After he retired he moved to Poplar Bluff tried to get help from the VA for his dental insurance cause we don't have any. They told him he had accomplished too much. He wasn't eligible for help from the VA. He couldn't even get a VA card so he could use the card for discounts at the other stores. I don't think this is fair for the veterans that has worked and saved money all their lives and now is not eligible to get any help. Thank you.

Legal to gamble in Poplar Bluff?

Yes, I was calling about the gaming machines in an establishment here in town. I was wondering when it became legal to gamble in Poplar Bluff? The things are illegal in this city. You cannot have a casino and they pay out hundreds and thousands of dollars from these machines. I just wanted to know when it became legal to gamble in Poplar Bluff? Thank you.

Thank God for honest people

Thanks be to God that we still have good honest people. On Dec. 30, 2013, a $10,000 check was dropped on the Walmart parking lot. After frantically searching for the check I called Walmart. An honest person had found the check and turned it in to the service desk. I was able to get the $10,000 check back and I want to thank the person for turning it in. God bless you whoever you are and I am extremely thankful to you. God bless you!

Stop burning

the forest

I'm calling concerning the Freemont-Pineknot East Restoration Project where they are burning off the forests hopefully to have new growth underneath to be better than what's there now. They are gonna get rid of the oak trees and they're going to hope that there will be new young pines come out and this second growth of pines isn't like the old pine a hundred years ago which will take a hundred years for it to grow out to what it is now. I'm against the burning. When they burned on J Highway they picked the worst day of the year. They didn't know what they were doing. The fire got away from them. They picked a day that was hottest highest windiest time they could possibly find to burn. That proves to me that this project they don't know what they're doing. And I think this needs to be . . . they need to watch what they've done so far before they burn more off. The beauty of our timber is a big part of that country they are trying to burn now. They need to go to California and some of those states where they have done all the burning and just stay out there for awhile and maybe they'll decide not to burn our timber here. Our timber has been our livelihood since over a 100 years when the big timber was here. I'm against burning especially when they don't know what they are doing. Thank you.

Noise levels

are annoying

In regards to Sunday's Speak Out as far as the Speedway noise being far-reaching. Tell whoever that is to try living by the Junior High. No matter how far away you are the noise never ends especially when it's May and all of the different schools are having these goings-on and just the loud noise plays late at night up until 10 o'clock on school evenings and when we're trying to get our young children to bed. Instead of complaining about things like that try thinking about things of this nature that are uncontrollable and you have to worry about being loud at your house; however, the school can have these loudspeakers echoing throughout the community. That's just ridiculous! And how late they play music and loudly announcing over the intercom. Just ridiculous! Thank you.
