Give kids holiday

Hi. I'm just calling in regards to Veterans' Day. I want to say thank you to all the veterans. Also I'd like to say that I think it's a real crime that we do not let our children celebrate Veterans' Day, but we will let them out of school to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday, who was not a politically correct person to do the things that our veterans have done. I just think that's a crime.

'Please, take me'

Hi, I am an elderly lady and I wanted a pet. I didn't have much money to buy one, so for the first time in my life I visited the dog pound. There's a shed for big dogs and there's another one for small dogs. I chose the small shed and when I walked in, of course, most of them were barking. As I got closer to the end of the shed there were two short-haired dogs. They both were so cute. Thankfully, one of them timidly put her nose up to the fence and looked up at me as if to say, "Please, take me." And, I did. She has really been a joy to have. It just took a few scoldings and a slap on her behind to make her know she had to go outside to potty. She is a good little companion and barks only when she hears something strange. I love her so much. She is such a good little dog. Anyone who needs a little companion and don't have a lot of money, I sure recommend going to the dog pound. Thank you.

Micro-manage

Well, folks, in another brilliant move by our wonderful, control everything, federal government, the FDA has now issued a ban against all trans fats. You know for the betterment of everyone's health. Well, here's something they probably not remembering. In our not too distance past, there was a fat that wasn't considered a trans fat and believe it or not it's still available to the American public. Can anyone name what it is? It's called lard! L . . . A. . . R . . . D. You know that animal fat we get from rendering the fat out from assorted animals during meat processing. I wonder if the FDA is taken this wonderful step backwards or it's just the idea they intend to control every little facet of our lives due to the Affordable Care Act that they have to ban trans fats for the program to even start to save money. You know if you can eliminate even just a few heart aches that might save a few million dollars here and there you know. Well, I myself, being one who has always chosen personal responsibility of not eating a lot of processed food. I just wonder how far the government is going to control and micro-manage our lives. Well, it's your choice, folks. Time to let our government know that we, the people, are fed up with the micro-management. Live free or die, as they say. Frankly, I'd rather die than suffer under the government that's coming down the pike for all of us.

Where's flags?

I was surprised by the lack of flags in the City Cemetery on Veterans' Day. If we no longer have folks to put flags on the graves, then, since the school corporation doesn't honor Veterans' Day, perhaps, they could teach some history and take our school children to the cemetery to place flags on the graves of our fallen veterans.
