Halloween: It's satan's holiday

Thursday, October 10, 2013

To the Editor:

I wish to offer some thoughts for your kind consideration. Come. Let us reason together. Many folks think Halloween is just innocent fun. It is all make-believe and no harm comes of it. Many Christians share this attitude. A common defense for this thought process is something like, "I was brought up this way. My parents were/are Christian, and they found no harm in it." No scripture is quoted. Such attitude seems more as an excuse than a justification. Maybe they are on the milk of the word. Perhaps they do not properly understand the principles of the Holy Bible and Christian living. This includes many Christian pastors and teachers. Truly, everything about Halloween may have serious consequences. Every Christian household and every S.S./church should have a serious and in-depth discussion about the pros and cons of Halloween. Young Christians should ask their parents and grandparents, "Which attitude is right? How can both be right? Which should I glorify, and which should I reject?" I believe the only correct and responsible answer is Romans 12:9 and 10: Resist that which is evil and cling to that which is good. Be kind one to another with brotherly love and in honor prefer one another.

Atheists and agnostics may remain passive, but to Christians, I respectfully submit: The Halloween celebration can easily confuse the masses. Double standards speak much. For nearly a whole year, you emphasize the virtues of Christian character to children and adults alike. For this I commend you. However, for the Halloween season, you throw righteousness out the window and encourage a cult that emphasizes the powers of darkness. Please don't be ignorant of Satan's devises. Happy faces and pretty costumes are enticements to enlist the innocent into this underground culture. Many people have fallen into this deep, dark hole. Many have patterned their lives to fit his purposes. He does not discriminate when his icy fingers choke the necks of his victims. That old Devil has caused me a lifetime of misery. He is no friend of mine.

When people are bulgarized, robbed, beaten, raped, molested or otherwise mistreated, they become angry toward the perpetrators, as they should. But many victimized people, as well as most others, eaglerly join the yearly celebration that represents and glorifies all evil actions. Witches, live skeletons with spirits of retaliation, blood sucking vampires, black cats and ghosts are glamorized. As they say, go figure.

The words, "Trick or treat" oppose Christian principles. They also exemplify the unfruitful works of darkness; which include selfishness, spite, deceit, jealousy, hatred and violence. That is, everything that satisfies fleshly desires. This is the essence of Satan. He is the father of lies and the enemy of our souls. God is light and truth.

The fruit of the (God's) Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. See Galatians 5 verses 22-24 and Ephesians 5 verses 8-10.

In times past, the lure of free candy to deprived children was a real encouragement. In current times, what encourages your family to participate in Halloween?

Prayerfully in Christ's Service,

Pastor Larry Jordan
